When Miya first reached out through our website from her new townhome in Winston-Salem, NC, her request sounded simple: she needed help choosing artwork, a rug, and curtains. She had a beautiful space with tons of potential—clean lines, tall ceilings, and natural light—but it still felt unfinished. Like many new builds, the home had great bones but lacked the warmth, personality, and function she wanted.
The moment I entered her living room, the vision shifted. What started as a décor appointment revealed a much bigger opportunity—the main living room wall, open and expansive, waiting to become the heart of the home.

A Vision Beyond the Checklist
We walked through her inspiration, style preferences, and color direction, and while we were covering textures and rug sizes, my mind kept going back to that massive empty wall. It wasn’t just unused; it was a missed opportunity.
After we discussed all her original needs, I finally shared the idea I had been holding onto from the second I walked in: “Miya, this wall could be the anchor of your entire home.”
Right there at her kitchen counter, I sketched out the concept—nothing fancy, just a quick drawing to help her see what I was imagining. A 12" fireplace bump-out designed to center the room and house both the TV and an electric fireplace. And to the side, three custom oversized shelves to display her basketball trophies, coaching memorabilia, and personal pieces that tell her story.
Her eyes lit up instantly. She wasn’t just seeing a wall anymore—she was seeing what it could become.
Designing the Dream
When I returned to the studio, we turned the sketch into a full 3D rendering. Seeing her vision in lifelike detail shifted everything. Now she could picture her evenings by the fireplace, her achievements displayed proudly, and her once-blank wall transforming into a functional centerpiece.
From there, we layered in the pieces she originally came to us for—artwork, curtains, and the perfect rug—all selected to complement the media wall and enhance the warmth of the room. The design became cohesive, intentional, and deeply personal.
One Team, One Vision, One Build
One of my favorite parts of this project was watching Miya realize she didn’t need to hire multiple companies to bring her dream to life. She had one team who could design it, build it, and style it from start to finish.
From idea → to sketch → to rendering → to installation, every detail was planned with her lifestyle and personality in mind. Her media wall now adds character, storage, and a natural focal point that grounds the entire space.
The Transformation
When the last shelf was installed and the fireplace lit up for the first time, Miya’s reaction said it all. She walked in, paused, and just smiled—one of those genuine, emotional smiles that designers live for.
What started as a simple request for décor turned into a completely custom design moment that changed the feel of her whole home.
She didn’t just get curtains, artwork, and a rug—she got a space that finally feels like her.

Wrapping It Up
Miya’s Winston-Salem townhome is such a great example of what can happen when you invite a designer into your space not just to decorate, but to reimagine. Sometimes the biggest transformations begin with the smallest intentions.
If you’re looking around your home and something just feels unfinished, chances are you’re sitting on an opportunity—just like Miya’s wall. And we’d love to help you bring that vision to life.
