Every parent dreams of creating a space where their child feels at home—cozy enough for playtime but designed to last through the teenage years. When Jamie asked us to redesign her daughter’s room, her goal was simple: transform a builder-grade bedroom into a custom sanctuary that her daughter could grow with.
The space began as many new-construction rooms do: neutral-colored walls, white trim, and basic lighting. It was clean but lacked personality. Jamie wanted something that felt fresh, unique, and timeless—something that would reflect her daughter’s bright spirit while still being sophisticated enough to evolve as she got older.

Design Goals: From Basic to Custom
From the start, Jamie knew she didn’t want a temporary “little girl’s room.” She wanted a space that could easily transition from childhood to teenage years, with foundational elements that wouldn’t feel dated as her daughter grew.
The inspiration came from Accent Prone, a design-forward store known for its bold, eclectic aesthetic. With that spark, we set out to create a room that balanced charm, functionality, and longevity.
Board and Batten: Setting the Stage
The biggest transformation began with the walls. To break away from the plain builder finish, we installed custom board and batten trim around all four walls of the room. To elevate the look further, we added a delicate beaded accent that introduced texture and detail.
Once the trim was complete, we painted every molding, door, and piece of woodwork in Marine by Sherwin-Williams (SW 9659) with a semi-gloss sheen. This deep, moody blue was the perfect backdrop—rich enough to make the room feel elegant but still playful for a child’s space.
Just that paint and trim upgrade instantly took the room from “builder basic” to fully custom.
The Power of Custom Wallpaper
Next came the wallpaper, and this is where the personality of the room truly came alive. We sourced a playful yet timeless design from Love vs. Design, a company known for its customizable patterns and colorways. Unlike traditional wallpaper, their product arrives pre-cut into panels, designed to hang side by side with minimal waste—an installer’s dream!
Jamie and her daughter loved being able to choose a design and adjust the colors to fit their vision perfectly. The wallpaper added a whimsical yet refined layer to the room, complementing the painted trim and tying the whole look together.
Finishing Touches: The Beaded Chandelier
Every great room needs a statement piece, and in this space, it was the lighting. We chose a beaded chandelier that struck the perfect balance of youthful charm and timeless style. Its soft curves and textural detail echoed the beaded trim on the walls, creating a cohesive, thoughtful design.
The chandelier not only provides light but also acts as a focal point, adding just the right touch of sophistication to the room.
Form, Function, and a Room That Grows
The beauty of this design is in its flexibility. The foundation—board and batten walls, rich Marine paint, and custom wallpaper—creates a polished backdrop that can adapt as Jamie’s daughter matures. Whether she’s playing with dolls, studying for school, or hosting friends as a teenager, this space will feel relevant and comfortable.
By investing in high-impact, timeless upgrades, Jamie ensured that her daughter’s room won’t need a major overhaul every few years. Instead, small changes in furniture, accessories, and art will keep the space evolving alongside her.
The Reveal: A Room That Feels Like Home
When Jamie’s daughter first walked into her finished room, her smile said it all. The once-plain walls now told a story, the chandelier sparkled overhead, and the wallpaper added personality she could call her own. It wasn’t just a bedroom anymore—it was her special place.
For Jamie, the best part was knowing this room would grow with her daughter. No matter the stage of life, the design will continue to feel fresh, functional, and uniquely theirs.
Imagine the Possibilities
The project shows that even the simplest rooms can be transformed into something extraordinary. With thoughtful design, you can take a blank canvas and create a space that’s custom, practical, and beautiful for years to come.
If you’re dreaming of a room makeover—whether for your child, yourself, or your whole home—let’s create a design that grows with you.
