A Bold Vision from the Start
Sheri reached out through our website looking to redesign her dining room and adjacent bar room with a look that felt both elegant and bold. She loved to entertain and wanted spaces that felt elevated, confident, and full of personality. From our first conversation, it was clear she wasn’t afraid of color—and that gave us the freedom to design something truly special.

The Design Consultation That Set the Tone
We began with an in-home design consultation, where we walked through how the spaces were used and what Sheri was ready to change. During that visit, we made one of the biggest decisions right away: selecting Coquina by Sherwin-Williams for the dining room walls. It was a bold choice, but one that felt absolutely right for the space and for Sheri. That color became the foundation for everything that followed.
Creating Two Distinct Yet Connected Spaces
Once back in the studio, the challenge became tying the dining room and bar room together while allowing each space to have its own identity. Since the dining room color was already chosen, I used it as a guide to select a bold, coordinating wallpaper for the bar room—one that pulled in the same tones to create visual continuity.
To strengthen the connection even more, we carried the dining room wall color into the bar room by painting the trim, doors, and ceiling in that same shade. This subtle detail made the transition between rooms feel intentional and seamless.
Designing Around Existing Bar Room Features
Sheri wanted to keep her existing cabinetry, backsplash, and countertops in the bar room, which gave us important existing elements to work with. Instead of starting from scratch, we refreshed the space by painting the cabinetry Urban Bronze by Sherwin-Williams and pairing it with antique bronze knobs sourced from Parks Decorative Hardware in Winston-Salem. These updates added depth, warmth, and sophistication while honoring what was already there.
Elevating the Dining Room with Color, Fabric, and Light
In the dining room, I wanted to fully embrace the “fifth wall”—the ceiling. The tray ceiling offered the perfect opportunity to draw the eye upward, so I selected an abstract mural that added movement, vibrancy, and colors that echoed the bar room wallpaper.
We color-drenched the space by painting the walls, trim, and doors all the same shade—a bold and trending approach that creates a rich, immersive feel. Curtains were sourced in a similar tone to keep them from competing with the ceiling, allowing the mural to remain the focal point. Sheri’s existing dining chairs were reupholstered using locally sourced designer fabric remnants, completed by Donna Stanley Interiors, giving them a fresh, elevated look.

Finishing Touches That Made It Personal
Lighting was the final major design moment. I sourced a unique three-tier chandelier with hanging mercury glass details that feels almost antique and adds a striking sense of elegance. To finish the space, we layered in accessories—including plates collected from Sheri’s travels, displayed as artwork. These personal details brought warmth, meaning, and story into the design, making the space feel uniquely hers.
