Misty’s Kitchen Project: From Dated to Dreamy

Some renovations are years in the making—and Misty’s kitchen remodel was one of them.
For years, she dreamed of updating her well-loved but outdated kitchen. The space, built in the 1970s, had seen a few small updates over time, but it still carried that old, closed-in feel. Misty envisioned something entirely different: a bright, classic, and luxurious kitchen that felt as fresh and inviting as the rest of her home.
When Misty called Kendall Sharpe Designs, she was finally ready to make that dream a reality—and we couldn’t wait to help bring it to life.

Design Goals: Timeless Style with a Fresh Twist
We started with a design consultation, where Misty shared her goals, her must-haves, and the budget she’d been carefully saving for. Our goal was to create a space that felt clean, elegant, and timeless—but with those little design moments that make it uniquely hers.
The layout only needed a few smart tweaks to improve flow, so our focus became elevating every visual detail—creating a kitchen that balanced luxury with livability.
A Complete Transformation
We demoed the entire kitchen down to the drywall, removing everything from the 1970s design and starting fresh. Out went the old cabinets, appliances, flooring, and finishes.
In their place, we designed a custom kitchen that felt bright and modern, yet rooted in classic design principles.
We installed custom cabinetry painted in “Pure White” by Sherwin Williams (SW 7005)—a crisp, timeless shade that immediately opened up the space. To add warmth and contrast, we selected brushed brass cabinet hardware, which brought a touch of soft luxury and tied in beautifully with Misty’s style.
For countertops, Misty fell in love with Calacatta Laza quartz—a stunning material with gentle veining that adds just the right amount of movement and sophistication to the kitchen. We wrapped the island in a dramatic waterfall edge, creating a statement piece that instantly draws the eye when you walk into the room.
Standout Feature: The Mother of Pearl Backsplash
Every room needs a showstopper—and for Misty’s kitchen, it was the backsplash.
We selected a Dolomite and Mother of Pearl hexagon mosaic tile framed in polished marble. Its luminous texture adds just the right amount of sparkle, catching the light throughout the day and giving the space subtle movement.
Fun fact: Mother of Pearl has made a big return in interior design—its reflective quality helps bounce light around the room, making even small kitchens feel larger and more open.
Function and Flow
While the remodel was primarily aesthetic, we made thoughtful updates to improve functionality and storage. Custom cabinetry ensured every inch had a purpose—from deep drawers for cookware to hidden pullouts for utensils.
We also installed a new window, flooding the kitchen with natural light and highlighting the crisp tones of the white cabinets and quartz surfaces. Every element worked together to create a kitchen that was not just beautiful, but truly enjoyable to use.
The Reveal: A Dream Realized
When Misty walked into her finished kitchen, the excitement was written all over her face. Years of planning, saving, and dreaming had finally come to life. The transformation was beyond what she imagined—a perfect blend of bright, elegant, and timeless.
“This is my dream kitchen,” she said with a smile. And that’s the moment we love most—the joy of seeing a client fall in love with their space again.
