A Timeless Kitchen Transformation: Sarah's White Kitchen Remodel

Sometimes the most impactful kitchen renovations don't require changing the footprint of the room. Sarah loved the layout of her kitchen—it already functioned well for her family—but she wanted to refresh the space with brighter finishes, better storage solutions, and timeless design details that would elevate the entire room.
Rather than starting from scratch, we focused on enhancing the kitchen's functionality while introducing thoughtful materials, updated lighting, and custom touches that would make the space feel brand new.
Keeping the Layout While Improving Function
One of the biggest advantages of Sarah's kitchen was its existing layout. Since the floor plan already worked well, there was no need to relocate plumbing or appliances. Instead, we concentrated on making the cabinetry work harder.
We installed all-new white Shaker-style cabinets, giving the kitchen a fresh, timeless foundation. While the cabinet locations remained the same, we made strategic improvements by replacing several lower cabinet doors with deep drawers for easier access and adding a pull-out organizer specifically designed for baking sheets and cutting boards. These seemingly small changes greatly improved the everyday functionality of the space.

Creating Contrast with the Island
The island naturally serves as the centerpiece of the kitchen, so we wanted it to stand apart from the surrounding cabinetry. We painted it Urbane Bronze by Sherwin-Williams, creating a beautiful contrast against the crisp white perimeter cabinets.
To complement both finishes, we selected Calacatta Laza quartz countertops, whose warm veining softens the bold island color while bringing warmth and movement throughout the room. Oil-rubbed bronze hardware and a coordinating faucet tied everything together, creating a balanced mix of classic and contemporary design. A combination of knobs and six-inch pulls added both visual interest and practical functionality.
Layering in Light
Lighting can completely transform how a kitchen feels, and Sarah wanted a space that was both beautiful and highly functional.
We added under-cabinet lighting to brighten the countertops for food preparation, installed retrofit recessed lighting to provide even illumination throughout the room, and selected a new chandelier over the breakfast table to create a welcoming gathering space. Together, these lighting updates made the kitchen feel brighter, warmer, and more inviting from every angle.
A Backsplash That Steals the Show
While the cabinetry and countertops established a timeless foundation, the backsplash became the kitchen's true statement piece.
We selected an artisan tile with beautiful movement and an organic shape that immediately draws your eye into the space. Its handcrafted appearance adds texture and personality while complementing the clean lines of the cabinetry. We sourced the backsplash from Artisan Stone Tile by StoneImpressions, whose decorative natural stone collections are known for combining craftsmanship with timeless design.
This feature introduced just the right amount of color and artistic detail without overwhelming the room, proving that even a single design element can become the defining feature of a kitchen.
The Finishing Details That Complete the Design
To finish the renovation, we painted the walls Rock Candy by Sherwin-Williams, creating a soft backdrop that allows the cabinetry and finishes to shine. Fresh white paint on the trim and ceiling gave the entire room a crisp, polished appearance.
One detail that often goes unnoticed—but made a remarkable impact—was replacing the solid laundry room door with a frosted glass door. This simple update allows natural light to pass between spaces while maintaining privacy, making the kitchen feel brighter and more open.

Bringing It All Together
Sarah's kitchen is a perfect example of how thoughtful design doesn't always require changing a home's layout. By improving storage, updating finishes, layering lighting, and introducing carefully selected materials, we created a kitchen that feels timeless, functional, and welcoming.
At Kendall Sharpe Designs, we believe the best renovations build upon what already works. Through intentional design choices and attention to every detail, we transformed Sarah's kitchen into a space that will serve her family beautifully for years to come.
