Jennifer had a clear vision for her space—she needed more than just a desk. She wanted a place where her family could work, create, and spend time together. Her home office felt disconnected and cluttered, with scattered supplies, a visible printer, and a standard desk that just didn’t meet her needs. More than anything, she was ready for a solution that would last.
A custom built-in was the answer. Unlike furniture that comes and goes, built-ins become part of the home’s architecture. They add beauty, purpose, and long-term value—and in Jennifer’s case, they brought everything together in one cohesive, hardworking design.
Designing for Daily Life
The goal was clear: build a workspace that felt intentional and elegant, while solving practical problems like lack of storage and visible cords. The design focused on both style and function, with smart features built right in.
We included deep drawers for filing, allowing the family to stay organized with a system that keeps everything within reach. A dedicated printer cabinet with hidden storage was added to keep bulky equipment tucked away but fully operational. Inside the cabinet, we installed a surge protector to handle the printer and other devices seamlessly.
A recessed outlet was added behind the desktop so laptops and tablets could be charged without creating cord clutter. Every detail was chosen to make the space easier to use—and more beautiful to live with.
Custom Touches That Stand Out
The hidden printer storage is one of the standout features of the design. It solves a common problem in home offices: where to put the printer without sacrificing aesthetics. With its clean front and concealed access, the cabinet blends into the design while still providing full functionality.
We also paid close attention to the electrical details—installing a dedicated outlet inside the printer cabinet to power a surge protector, and adding a recessed outlet behind the desktop so laptops and tablets can be plugged in without cords dangling below. These built-in solutions keep the space clean, functional, and ready for daily use. This kind of built-in customization makes the space feel more tailored, and it’s a perfect example of how built-ins solve real issues in everyday life—while adding lasting value to the home.

A Rich, Inviting Finish
We chose Naval by Sherwin-Williams as the finish for the built-in—a deep, sophisticated navy that brings depth and richness to the room. It’s a timeless choice that makes the entire piece feel elevated, cozy, and custom.
The color adds personality without overpowering the design, making it ideal for a family space where style and comfort are equally important.
Function That Feels Permanent
The beauty of a built-in is that it’s made to last. This isn’t a desk that will get scratched, replaced, or moved around—it’s part of the home now. It’s built for how Jennifer and her family live, with thoughtful features and timeless design that will continue serving them for years to come.
Built-ins like this one don’t just meet today’s needs—they grow with the home and the people in it. That permanence adds real value, both functionally and financially.
A Finished Space with Heart
When the space was complete, it was clear how much had changed. What was once a simple office became a space full of purpose, warmth, and personality. Everything had a place. The room felt brighter, calmer, and more connected to the rest of the home.
This project is a great reminder that when you design with care and intention, even the most practical spaces can become your favorite places. A custom built-in doesn’t just improve a room—it transforms how it feels to live in it.
